<TD CLASS="body">The Oil Brush's default Tool Options palette settings will generally work well for this Quick Guide. But the make sure the Trace option is checked. This options allows you to use the underlying layer's pixels as the paint source.</TD>
<TD ALIGN="LEFT" CLASS="boldbody">Step 4 - Set zoom level, begin tracing</TD>

<TD CLASS="body">If necessary, set the zoom level so you can view all of the image. (Use the Zoom tool, the Overview palette's Zoom setting, or the Image > Zoom commands.) Now place the cursor over one of the berries, such as those in the lower right image area. Hold down the left button and drag the cursor over a berry using short, careful strokes. Your paint strokes will reside on a new Art Media layer.</TD>

<TD CLASS="body">After tracing over one berry, release the mouse button, place the cursor over another berry or another element such as the green leaf, and then place new paint strokes. Note that the Oil Brush will "run out of" paint after a while, just like a real paint brush. To replentish the brush, simply release the mouse button, then hold it down again and drag strokes over the image.</TD>
<TD ALIGN="LEFT" CLASS="boldbody">Step 6 - Continue tracing over the photo</TD>

<TD CLASS="body">As described in the previous steps, continue tracing over the photo. Use new paint strokes when tracing over different color regions in the photo (green leaf, brown wood, purple berries, dark shadow regions, etc.).</TD>
<TD ALIGN="LEFT" CLASS="boldbody">Step 7 - Turn off Background layer visibility</TD>

<TD CLASS="body">On the Layers palette, toggle off the Background layer's visibility -- click its Visibility Toggle icon so a red X appears over it. This will reveal the your paint strokes in the Art Media layer.</TD>
<TD VALIGN="TOP" CLASS="body">The Trace option is also available with the Chalk, Pastel, Crayon, Colored Pencil, Marker, and Palette Knife tools from the Art Media toolset.</TD>
<TD VALIGN="TOP" CLASS="body">Set the Zoom as well as the Brush size settings to get the best results for tracing over very small or very large photo elements.</TD>
<TD VALIGN="TOP" CLASS="body">With practice, you'll see how the Trace option allows you to create impressionistic type effects using a photograph as the underlying layer.</TD>
